It was a bright, peaceful morning at the temple when a heartbreaking scene unfolded. A tiny baby monkey, full of playful energy, climbed up the sloping roof where the troop often rested. The little one, curious and excited, wanted to imitate the older monkeys jumping from one ledge to another. Nearby, another mother monkey sat calmly grooming her own baby, watching the playful youngster from a distance.
The baby monkey’s mother was foraging below, unaware of her child’s risky adventure. The little one moved too fast, slipping on the smooth tile. In a split second, its tiny body lost balance and slid downward, struggling to grab hold of the edge. The other mother monkey turned her head quickly at the sound of the slip, her eyes wide with concern. The small monkey let out a frightened cry that echoed through the temple yard as it dangled helplessly.
Then—thud! The baby landed in a pile of dry leaves below. Silence filled the air for a moment before soft whimpers broke it. The mother monkey came rushing over, her heart pounding. She scooped up her trembling baby, checking every limb with gentle hands. The little one clung tightly to her chest, its small body still shaking in fear.
The nearby mother monkey watched silently, her own baby pressed close to her fur, as if she too understood the danger of curiosity and play. Fortunately, the tiny monkey escaped with only minor bruises. The troop soon gathered around, sniffing and comforting both mother and baby. What began as an innocent game ended as a painful lesson—reminding all that even the smallest slip can bring the biggest scare in a monkey’s fragile world.
