In a truly unbelievable and unexpected moment, two adult monkeys, Bonita and Luny, were seen seizing tiny baby Elayna in what looked like a surprising tug-of-war. This rare scene unfolded in front of shocked caretakers and left viewers both stunned and deeply concerned for the safety of the little one.
Baby Elayna, just a few weeks old, was peacefully resting near her mother when Bonita approached, curious and unusually bold. Without hesitation, Bonita gently reached for Elayna, lifting her into her arms. At first, it seemed like a display of affection, as some female monkeys often try to hold newborns out of maternal instinct. But the situation quickly escalated when Luny, another high-ranking female in the troop, rushed in and tried to take Elayna for herself.
What followed was a tense and nerve-wracking struggle between the two adult monkeys. Bonita and Luny each pulled gently but firmly, clearly both wanting possession of Elayna. The poor baby let out soft cries, clearly frightened and confused. Her tiny limbs dangled between the two, as they pulled back and forth, unwilling to let go. It was a heartbreaking moment, and the caretakers quickly rushed to intervene.
The scene calmed when the caregivers managed to retrieve baby Elayna and return her safely to her mother. Thankfully, she was not hurt—only frightened. Her mother, understandably distressed, hugged Elayna close and refused to let anyone near for a while.
This incident shocked many, as it’s uncommon for two females to fight over a newborn like this. While some female monkeys often try to “borrow” or carry babies, this tugging incident was unusually aggressive. It’s a strong reminder of how unpredictable monkey social behavior can be, especially when it involves hierarchy, jealousy, or maternal instinct.
Elayna is now safe, but that dramatic moment will be remembered for a long time. Bonita and Luny’s actions show how complex and emotional monkey dynamics can truly be.
